Trek through small villages, spectacular rice terraces, rain forests, and the lake-studded volcanoes of central Bali. Mountain bike the back roads of Mounts Batur and Batukaru, exploring remote hamlets and soaking in awesome panoramas. Visit remote Hindu temples, climb a volcano, and gain a first-hand knowledge of the Balinese culture from the many new friends you make along the way. Snorkel reefs teeming with fish in Bali Barat National Park. Overnight in boutique hotels and spectacular mountain inns. Enjoy cultural performances, take in the island's arts and crafts, and experience the ceremonies and rituals associated with the island's unique form of Hinduism....

ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival in Bali. Check in to hotel in Sanur. Sunset tour of Ulu Watu, one of Bali's most important temples, perched hundreds of feet above the sea atop sheer cliffs. Welcome feast.

Day 2 Ubud. Morning at leisure. Transfer to Ubud, the cultural and artistic heart of Bali. Afternoon walk through rice terraces and small villages on outskirts of town. Evening dance performance.

Day 3 Ubud. Drive to Pura Luhur Batukaru, one of Bali's most sacred and beautiful temples. After visiting the temple, we mountain bike through remote villages and the spectacular rice terraces of Jati Luwih. Afternoon at leisure to explore Ubud.

Day 4 Ubud. Trekking through rainforest and isolated villages, farms and homesteads to scenic Lake Bratan. Visit serene lakeside temple and botanic gardens

Day 5 Ubud/Batur. Dive head-first into Bali's art scene. Visit Bali's premiere art museum, as well as the studios of several artists and artisans. A highlight is a visit to the gallery of Symon, Bali's most prominent gay painter. In the late afternoon, drive up to Kintamani and Mount Batur, Bali's most active volcano. After taking in the views from the caldera rim, we proceed into the crater where we overnight in a small inn at the foot of the volcano, on the shores of Lake Batur

Day 6 Batur/Pemuteran. Early morning climb of Mount Batur. After descending, we drive back up to the caldera rim and continue to the sparsely-populated northern coastline, with its black sand beaches and small fishing villages, stopping at points of interest along the way. Overnight at a pleasant beachfront inn at Pemuteran

Day 7 Pemuteran. Visit Bali Barat National Park. Excursion to Menjangan Island for snorkeling; one of the most outstanding reefs in Indonesia. Trekking Bali Barat National Park.

Day 8 Munduk. Continue into the mountains of Central Bali. Afternoon at leisure, with an optional walk to a spectacular waterfall. Overnight at a remote mountain inn overlooking miles of sculpted rice terraces, the entire northern coastline and the volcanoes of Java towering in the background!

Day 9 Munduk. Trek from crater lakes of central Bali through remote villages; spectacular rice terraces; and coffee, clove, and fruit orchards. This is Bali's finest walk!

Days 10-11 Kerobokan. Travel to Bali's southern coast. Two days at leisure to enjoy Bali's fine beaches. Optional trip on Day 12 to a delightful man-to-man spa. Farewell dinner.

Day 12 Departure. Transfer to airport for departure flight
